Confidentiality & Privacy Policy

The law protects the relationship between a patient and a psychologist, and information cannot be disclosed without your written permission. As a patient in therapy you are also the "holder of privilege." This is a legal concept that basically means that you are the only person that can legally here are exceptions to confidentiality sign to have your participation or content of the sessions shared with anyone else. Please keep in mind that that there are exceptions to confidentiality, and as a legally mandated reported, confidentiality does not apply under the following conditions:

Exceptions include:

  • Suspected child abuse or dependant adult or elder abuse, for which I am required by law to report this to the appropriate authorities immediately.
  • If a patient is threatening serious bodily harm to another person/s, I must notify the police and inform the intended victim.
  • If a patient intends to harm himself or herself, I will make every effort to enlist their cooperation in ensuring their safety. If they do not cooperate, I will take further measures without their permission that are provided to me by law in order to ensure their safety.
